San Francisco is a city that is well known for the cable cars that run through out the city on a regular basis. Many people have not ever had a chance to experience this kind of transportation before. The cable cars are not the only thing that is interesting in San Francisco. There are several different attractions to visit while in the city. There is the Golden Gate Bridge and Fisherman’s Wharf. These are only two of the most popular place to visit while on vacation.
The Golden Gate Bridge is probably the one thing that most people associate with San Francisco. The Golden Gate was finished in 1937 and was the longest suspension bridge at the time. The Golden Gate Bridge received its name because of the location. The bridge spans the opening of the Golden Gate which is where the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean meet. This bridge is an amazing site to see for the first time.
The Fisherman’s Wharf is a great place to go and see the fresh fish of the day being brought in and packaged for sale. There are all kinds of place to have dinner or lunch right around the area. There is the benefit of having fresh fish pretty much right off a fisherman’s boat. This is one place that can not be passed up when in city for a visit.
A visit to Alcatraz is also a very popular tourist attraction. The Rock is a very common nick name for Alcatraz because of the black rock island that it sits on. The Rock was home to some of the most notorious criminals. Alcatraz operated as a prison from 1934 to 1963 during this time there was never as successful escape. Most criminals who tried to escape drowned in the strong currents of the San Francisco Bay. These water are some of the most dangerous because of the currents that run through out. These currents are so strong because the bay meets with the Pacific Ocean.
San Francisco holds many exciting adventures. This is a city to explore whether you are alone on vacation or are looking to bring the family along. San Francisco is not only an interesting city full of many different cultures but part of our countries past lies with in the bay area.
